Immanent For this third release on Dais, Drew McDowall reaches into concept, ritual, and immersion, in an exercise of unravelling the DNA of hallucination. The Third Helix is McDowalls product of deconstructive exploration, twisting the fibers of being into new structure, shape, pattern, and pulse, without reconstituting its inscribed template. Drew McDowall's third solo album is themed around DNA, particularly in relation to hallucination. The album is filled with shredded voices, drifting chords, and occasional clanging percussion, though not as much as on his previous albums. The sound has a ghostly quality, not quite taking a solid form but certainly not dissipating, either. The pieces often seem sparse, but every sound seems carefully considered. The most memorable tracks on the album are the first two, which incorporate muddy strings and reverberating metallic thuds, as well as haunting echoes of voices. Drew McDowall born 28 January 1961 is a Scottish musician who has been a member, collaborator, and remixer for various influential music groups. McDowall was formerly a full-time member of Coil. McDowall formed art-punk trio Poems in 1978 with his then-wife, Rose McDowall. During the 1980s, McDowall was a member of Psychic TV. McDowall performed with Coil regularly for several years, becoming an official member in 1994. McDowall currently is a member of the groups CSD formerly Captain Sons and. Drew McDowall.
