Miles Davis at Fillmore is a 1970 live album by jazz trumpeter Miles Davis and band, recorded at the Fillmore East, New York City on four consecutive days, June 17 through June 20, 1970, originally released as a double vinyl LP. The performances featured the double keyboard set-up Davis toured with for a few months, with Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea playing electronic organ and Fender Rhodes, respectively. The group opened for Laura Nyro at these performances. Organically, in a live setting, it isn't the way Miles worked pieces would evolve, slowly, with a kind of spooky continuity. The Black Beauty set is preferable to this one, though there isn't any Jarrett - or March 7, 1970's It's About That Time which does include him. This collection only reveals that the band was capable of blowing everybody's mind though it never actually happens. Miles Davis tp Wayne Shorter ts. The group now included two keyboards: Chick Corea took over the electric piano and the newcomer Keith Jarrett, in spite of his aversion to electric keyboards, contented himself with a small electric organ, a Fender Contempo. The female face in the covers patchwork is that of Miles new girlfriend Marguerite Eskridge, the future mother of his third son Erin. Album 1970 17 Songs. The Best of Miles Davis. Bitches Brew. The Essential Miles Davis. A Tribute to Jack Johnson. Miles Davis took the stage of New York's Fillmore East with five other players on March 7, 1970. Leaning heavily on the soon-to-be-released Bitches Brew and looking back no further than 1962's Masqualero, they rumbled, squawled, and stomped through two sets that might have surprised even fans of Davis's new rock-influenced sound.
