Overlooked album many "trad" Doobiests might feel weak and not as true to the DB rock and rock/blues form. Me I like the overall laid-back mood and almost feel this release comes across as a long lost McDonald solo album!
The album has a very pop and 50/60's doo woop influence in a track or 2 which I am NOT a fan of but I think Living on the Fault Line track is worth owning. Theres more focus on the keys natural given McDonald handled a majority of the song writing at this point and I for one enjoy the beauty of the Fender Rhodes taking a more prominent position.
There IS guitar but the playing is clean and less out in front and more of a support instrument than for soloing. The fact that there was 2 distinct era's of the Doobie Brothers shows the versatility of the band per se. Then again I enjoy the experience of listening to many bands "bastard" child recordings for the dont give a f**k artistic merits. Not a bad album overall but not the top of the DB catalog either.
